An Ageing Poet Poem by Francis Duggan

An Ageing Poet

The ageing poet he sits on a park bench a poem is forming in his head
A poem on the woman that he loved that to another is wed
He loved her though her he never dated unrequited love one could say
But she too like him has grown older with the passing of each yesterday,
She is one not interested in poetry so on him she showed no interest
Her husband he is a business man that type of person suits her best
Some women marry for love only and others for financial security
And few poets have ever been wealthy and many of them know of poverty,
A woman that he never dated or even kissed once on the cheek
In life we seldom get what we want most of unrequited love many can speak
In his eyes she hasn't changed that much from the beautiful one of three decades ago
Though she has put on a few kilos and the years on her starting to show
And he sits alone on the park bench writing a poem on the unrequited love of his life
A woman that he never dated and for many years another man's wife.
