Am I Being Played? Poem by June FeirCruz

Am I Being Played?

Rating: 5.0

At first glance, I am the sophisticated one
But I have became one out of necessity
I want to more than survive, to more than prevail
I just want to be.

At first glance, I am in charge
But it is all an act
I just want to shelter my dreams
To protect my heart from predators at large.

At first glance, I am cool, calm and collected
Though my heart trembles
Though I am paralyzed with fear
I just don't want to be played.

But, am I being played?
Am I just a mark?
Was your intent to just step on my heart?
Squashed it like a bug?

I was held by this poem - compelled to read to the end. It is powerful and sensitive at the same time. The assymetric form serves to emphasise the emotions pulling in many directions. Thank you, as ever June!
