Alphabet V Poem by Jasbir Chatterjee

Alphabet V

Rating: 5.0

There is no Roman alphabet
With as many strong connotations,
Intense emotions
And feelings
Associated with it as the alphabet
‘V.'

While you gaze at it resting quietly on its vertex,
A picture of calm and innocence,
It brings to your mind the psychedelic images of a female body,
The pain and pleasures it experiences,
Injustice and indignities
Heaped on it through generations.

Yes, while V stands for victory,
Vitamins, Vodka, vanilla, Viagra, vinegar, vacancy,
It stands for so many other fiery things like viper, violence,
Valentine, Vanessa Hudgens,
Virgin, voodoo, vixen,
Vices, Valium, Victorian.

I am addicted to word-play, to toying with words and phrases to create atmosphere and scenery- -now I see another realm to explore - -the power of the alphabet! ! ! ! Jasbir- -please don't ever curb your imagination! ! ! It makes your poetic voice so unique! ! ! I am glad you commented on my poems- there are so many writers on this site it is too easy to never get acquainted with each other's work and I would not liked to have missed yours.10

You have done a wonderful job exploring the scope of alphabet 'Y'. To me, the most thought provoking part of the poem relates to images of a female body....The pain and pleasures..... Injustice and indignities....it experiences, Thank you, Jasbir ji. Heaped on it through generations.
