Alone, I Am Me Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Alone, I Am Me

Just remembering the past makes me pause
And stop awhile, to assure myself it's over.
Fragments of the painful images can still cause
The tears to fall, but with freedom now, I feel better.

Yes, I've found new life, strength and hope,
Though rising up from the broken pieces was not easy.
Like dying everyday in that darkness I would grope
With stifled cries, I drowned in an endless sea.

Alone I stood to take back all that was mine before,
No more heaviness of cutting words or cruel rejection.
I know my worth and I'm destined for greater things in store-
Life is what we choose to have with our own direction.

There was no pain in our goodbyes, no echo of your voice.
Relief was sighed and with courage I faced the future.
To be set free was really a matter of a needed choice
Alone I am me, my past behind, alone... I will endure.
