Alone Poem by Amar Agarwala

Alone

Am used to bouts of loneliness
But abhor being alone,
Yet there are times I feel shadowed
It could be my unseen clone!

If it's not him then who would want
To follow me through my day?
Donning the mask of loneliness
With alien truths to say.

I wait for him to speak to me
Thus measure with me his woes,
Yet all he does it pursue me
Just a step behind my toes.

I fathom not his silence deep
Though feel his nearness to me,
A mate in guise shall ever have
Till I reach eternity!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
LONELINESS IS HARD TO BEAR

Man is a social animal, and needs company to share his life and living. There are umpteen stories elucidating this fact. As a poet, I feel that loneliness is an essential part of creativity... it helps one explore one's mind in quietude and when one is alone. Yet, long bouts of loneliness can be a curse... for we need to share our mind and thoughts with close ones. Besides, all creative work or art also to be shared and enjoyed, not kept in closets to rot a lifetime.
