Allocution Poem by Jamie Dewyer

Allocution

time to speak
from below the breaches
the seaweed wraps the scarlet
leeches

dusted off the tomes
and speeches
centered outward
through the reaches

calmer
now
not needing water
sedate
and filter
food for slaughter
grip the reef rock
wade in deeper
you can't still
or save these sheep or

beg
on broken knees for favor
from the overlords and traitors
the makers of the system hate you
but they are not the ones who made you

time to speak
from softer poison
languid on this subtle frozen
throne

alas

there are no ears to waste my breath on
fear is all they follow
