All That Sound And Fury Poem by John Thorkild Ellison

All That Sound And Fury

We can't go on like this, it'll have to stop,
I've loved you for too long, felt too much pain -
I expect you wondered when the penny would drop,
An obsession like this can drive a man insane!

What was the point of it all, can you tell me why,
Why did I fall for you not someone else?
You were the only one and that's no lie,
Pretending otherwise would just be false.

The longing and the passion and the tears,
The secret holocaust inside my heart
Had led us nowhere, or so it now appears,
It's time for you to leave, for us to part.

To sum it up there is no final word,
No phrase or rhyme to make it seem worthwhile,
Our life is very foolish, quite Absurd,
Tomorrow I may even laugh or smile,

The heart is fickle, the awful wound will heal,
A million other folk have loved like this,
A thousand poets have felt the way I feel,
It's over now. We didn't even kiss! !
