a torrent of darkness
the moon a galleon
tossed upon cloudy seas

the road
a ribbon of moonlight
over the purple moor


the highwayman
comes riding— Riding—riding—
riding, up to the old inn-door


a French cocked-hat
a bunch of lace
at his chin
