Alas! Poem by Joseph Skipsey

Alas!

ALAS! the woe the high of heart,
Seem pre-ordained to undergo,
While proud ambition hides the smart,
And smiles delude the world below.

Their anguish, like a Samson blind,
Gropes on in darkness, till at length
It grasps the pillars of the mind, grasp
And dies a victim to its strength.
