Ajar Poem by Elizabeth Forrest

Ajar

There's no need to be afraid of me
no need to hold things back
for if you open up to me
I promise no attack

You speak as though you're frightened
but please do not despair
I am not here to judge you
only listen to you share

I don't know why you do not trust me
I don't try to understand
I just hope that you will hear me
and let me take your hand

My arms are always open
the door to my heart will be ajar
for when you decide to enter it
I won't be very far

I just hope that you remember
if you enter please be kind
for my heart just could not take it
if you slam the door behind
