Agony Poem by Deborah Downes

Agony

Piercing, pounding, perpetual pain
demanding all my energy, and leaving me insane
Day in and day out, blessed peace eludes me
The song of life plays on, but has chosen to exclude me

Though long forgotten is the source
Flesh, heart and mind all feel its force
Doctor, lawyer, charlatan chief
have taken their pound without giving relief
I’ve offered my faith, they’ve taken their pay
I’ve opened my heart, but they still turned away
If only I’d looked to kind souls who would care
instead of withdrawing and going nowhere
If only I’d trusted in the Lord God of all
Who for the price of my love would have answered my call!

I can feel the passion and agony in this poem, it is a great take on such an emotion.
