Ageing (Haiku) Poem by Ben Gieske

Ageing (Haiku)

Rating: 3.1

Grandma
wearing her sweater
the one with the hole

in the attic
cobwebs
in the mirror

birthday cake
lighting the candles
the third match

candle light dinner
ordering the wine
the same age

in the spare bedroom
opening the hat boxes
Easter hats matching gray

climbing the stairs
a little slower
creaking a little louder

prime time
TV reruns rumble on
your motoring snores

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I'm fast approaching that great age. It's nice to read poetry that honors wisdom gained from living a long life.

A wonderful series of Haiku that looks at the ageing process with tenderness and humour.

Being a grandma places me in the spotlight of your poem. At first I was a little resentful being reminded of the gaining years... but somehow you manage to put a smile on my face. Thanks for your well crafted poem...
