After The Gold Rush Poem by David Harris

After The Gold Rush

Rating: 5.0

After the gold rush is over
and you’ve collected your precious store
always keep it close for safekeeping
and remember to guard the door.
There is always someone
who wants whatever you have got,
always beware of strangers
no matter how innocent they look
there will always be one among them
who will want whatever you got.
After the gold rush is over
before you settle into peace and harmony
always beware, my friend
as there will always be one
who wants whatever you have got.

This is sobering. It was a lesson hard won as a child. Every time somebody stole something of my treasure, I was so shocked. But weren't we supposed to be following the Golden Rule? But finally I got savvy: Oh I get it; we are only paying lip service to that outmoded rule..lol. Loved the repetition, bringing home the main theme.

Your words are well chosen and the idea is very unique and expressed in an amazing way. I really enjoied reading it till the very last word, the title caught my attention. the underlying meaning behind the words is brilliant. Lovely piece of art
