After Dreaming Of You Poem by Gilbert Ortega

After Dreaming Of You

I woke up this morning, after dreaming of you
The sun wasn't shining, the sky wasn't blue
But I didn't take notice, after dreaming of you
The streets were flooding with water waist deep
Dead bodies were piling up in a heap
But all I could think of was you in my sleep
There was riots and looting and violence galore
Mother nature and mankind embroiled in war
I walked by casually, daydreaming some more
Buildings were burning and screams all around
Chaos was reigning, no help to be found
Me and my thoughts were ten miles above ground
There was a thunderous roar of jets flying by
Dropping missiles and bombs and gassing the sky
While the image of you was clouding my eye
Then it became darker and lightning flared out
It rained acid and locusts and forty pound trout
But I didn't care what this mess was about
The ground started shaking, there were cracks in the earth
The world torn asunder by this violent rebirth
Still, you poison my thoughts for all that their worth
Though, as I walk past a lava filled stream
I'm suddenly torn away from my dream
A tiny voice beckons, short of a scream
Is it your voice that's calling, is it you that I hear
My heart starts racing, to your cry I draw near
And find you clinging to life, trembling with fear
But, your countenance changes when you see it is I
You tell me to leave you, to just walk on by
Because the day I'm your hero, you'd rather die.
