African Voter? Poem by Gedion Onyango

Is that the one who promised carpet roads and wormless water?
Yes!
I voted for him in the last general elections

In fact, his names mean a brave warrior in my tribe……..

I heard rumors that he used development money to construct their family factory?

What else?

That he grabbed the community land, and municipality damping site

And sold it to a private developer from his known construction company

We also transferred millions from the municipality contracts to his company account

Which was created over night mainly for those funds

And maybe other funds from the constituency development Kitty

Actually! I am envious of him,

And I don't care about his critics….

As I know these critics are just jealous of our village

And success of my tribe

…..who cares after all!

His debates on Television are wonderful

His nationalistic stances also unquestionable

That is why since he became a Member of Parliament

His fortunes have tripled

Because his gods and we his supporters

Have been well placated!

I know his children learn in expensive European schools

........or may be some posh ones in America

I do not know exactly which is which.

But I tell you, his fortunes are only known to heavens

Because he has really taken good care of our culture!

And for me and my tribe

I will always elect him.....no matter what.

Who care about the policies anyway....we know that me and you

Are only here to eat

I am only loyal to our son... he will resolve ahhh! our poverty

Ahhh! and the high taxes..... ahhh! and maybe corruption

I am not quite sure but he is a good man here.

Because he basically shares with us what he has.
