African Hunting Dogs Poem by David Pass

African Hunting Dogs

Rating: 4.5

The hunting dogs less one
Lay concealed in the grass
Where had the one dog gone?
-To find prey to harass!

Slowly at first he went
Upwind of wildebeest.
They soon picked up his scent
Downwind they fled in haste.

Straight to the hidden pack
Who raced out of cover
And made a quick attack
In tune with each other

Seeking out the weakest
Cutting off its escape
Attack by the strongest
Flying feet, mouth agape

Snapping, biting, holding
Other dogs joining in
Bringing down and cutting
Ending the life within

All the dogs had their fill
Then to the den they went
Up came some of the kill
For hungry puppies meant
