Africa Poem by Andrea Vescovo

Africa

If your eyes were lakes then I'd be lost,
'cause darkness may be sad and may be lone
but yours is sweet and calm, and lulls me on
uncharted shores of lands I dream to explore.

Night may bring sorrow and make me think
of deeds of long ago, which I regret,
but your coy company lightens my mind,
unfasts its chains and loosens its firm bolts

Thus free of any grief, of any pain,
I can look southward and catch your smile.
