Adultery Poem by Sue Stone

Adultery

Rating: 5.0

What is it of this act,
that marks those partaking
with the musk like scent
of betrayal?
That lingers around you
like a mantle of deceit.
That leads to raw,
Illicit coupling;
the unacknowledged.

Deftness of hand
deceives the heart.
De facto,
the unacknowledged.
Your lingering kiss
leaves sweet sugar taste
on my tongue,
but this treachery’s name
cannot be spoken

the eroticism and mystique embedded in the unknown, , , , after the fact the sweet taste lingers in abbreviation....

I like that you are not being judgmental here. Just laying out the sordid facts to create the image, with not even a need to know the effect on the reader. I'm glad to have read this.

Well-written observational piece. Sounds like there is an element of suspicion of somebody close behind the words or an experience of betrayal close to home. I hope, of course, this is not the case! A hard subject to write about, whatever the reason, very well handled by a talented writer.

the sweet and bitterness of the forbidden...a frailty of us being human

Having partaken of this illicit activity numerous times, most often before I was married, I am familar with that feeling afterwards, but it was never as intense a feeling as that first time. Still, adultery can be hazardous to your health, particularly if a husband catches you in the act! When young, I was shot at twice by irate husbands, who fortunately were so mad they couldn't shoot straight! Your poem was very well written and quite expressive and I enjoyed reading it, Sue. Carl.

Not an act one is moved lightly to commit... I feel sorry for those that fall into this relationship.

It is good to see adultery being called what it is with no excuses, instead of lauded. I liked the irony of the last lines in relation to the title.
