Addiction Poem by Erika Wingo

Addiction

Rating: 5.0

In the beginning
You make me feel so good
Like nothing or no one
Could ever bring me down
I laugh and I'm so carefree
When everyone's around
Then you slowly
Pull me into sadness
Where I dwell
On the facts of my life
And I cry the tears
All over again

Then you drag me away
To a foreboding place
Where I'm all alone
I become frozen inside
And I feel like stone
Until you decide
To drive me crazy
Completely crazy
With all the emotions
That I tried so hard
To get away from
Ultimately, I only end up
Exactly where I began
By the time morning comes

Drugs can be a destructive force, they can make great people do horrible things. Yet I also see this about love and its own destructive impulse. A powerful work bristling with conviction

Your poem is truth well spoken. Using black tar heroin, brown, china white, crystal meth, Oxycontin, or crack, is like taking death for a lover.
