Acrostic, A. C. C. Poem by Benjamin Cutler Clark

Acrostic, A. C. C.

Although possess'd of youth and health,
Let not vain thoughts abound,
Midst every flower, as by stealth,
Insects will oft be found.
Remember then—remember when
All things in time will fail,

Coolly survey the future, then
Regard this earth as frail.
Ages have proved this saying true,
Nor can it be denied,
Despite of all that men can do,
Evil will flow from pride;
Let meekness guide your course through life,
Love, virtue, truth, and grace.

Calmly avoid all needless strife,
Leading you to disgrace,
Almira—this I bid you do,
Respect yourself, the right pursue;
Keep this advice always in view.
