Across The Miles Poem by Monica Engeler

Across The Miles

Rating: 5.0

I walked a lonely road in the fall air,
Searching for a place that is wondrous,
The spot I find would be full of promise,
And many narrated stories filled with flair.

Along the journey to my bounded land,
I smelled numerous arrogant flowers.
The miles rolled by like endless hours
A single rock entertained me in my hand.

As I wondered along the roadway,
I daydreamed of things that may entwine.
Sunlight awoke me as I walked in line,
But my fancies arrived along the way.

I saw my escort in the distant fatherland.
He crossed barriers along his infinite way.
My fantasy was as comely as words may say.
Our future pledged to be forever grand.

Together, we ventured in the out doors.
Life around appeared to be going right
Dark shadows cast fears and sad nights.
Expectations ended life that might be more.

Sadness overshadowed a sudden ailing.
Grey heavens silenced the flame around.
Only an eagle owned the lower ground.
I will recollect my friend when I am praying.

Distantly, a bugler played farewell for you.
I am a stranger now wandering in morn.
Far off a ship stood anchored near shore.
Riders boarded before it left the view.

My eyes lowered from the waters tide.
Weeping from my abrupt sorrows,
I desired to find my worldly tomorrows.
There are many tales and places to find.

Perhaps an ocean trip may start a new life.
That will erase sadness of yesteryear far way.
Maybe vitality will return to its stately days,
I implore that the future is of a greater time.
