Academics - Then And Now Poem by Noor Othman

Professors, associates and lecturers
Recruited together as committee members
They have responsibility on their shoulders
Conduct seminars and workshops for others

Support staff provides the arrangement
They carry the tasks, with deep commitment
Weeks in weeks out, they become assistants
Along with students they are one contingent.

We once used overhead projectors
Using transparencies and colorful markers
Then we were taught to use the computers
Since that day, we improved our lectures

Everything now is in digital form
If you are not in it you do not conform
Software and gadgets are only norm
This is the way, the best to perform

Students are taught the creative way
The traditional way no longer obey
The exams are not in the form of essay
Lectures say ‘huh' students say ‘hooray! '

This is my reflections as a long tenured lecturer in Medical School from 1987 till present.
