Aa, jeg bærer Himmelrummet

Aa, jeg bærer Himmelrummet,
det har Mennesker bestemt,
en maa slæbe det, hvis Vægt gør
alle andres Sind beklemt.

Og jeg slæber, og jeg tier,
— om jeg talte blot et Ord,
svøbte sig i tusind Taager
for mit Blik den lyse Jord.

Ingen Taager, ingen Skygger!
Jeg maa se den ung og stor!
Ellers styrter Himmelrummet,
— al min Kraft paa Jorden bor!

poet Emily Jane Brontë

I am the only being whose doom
No tongue would ask no eye would mourn
I never caused a thought of gloom
A smile of joy since I was born

In secret pleasure - secret tears
