A Year You Did Not Know Poem by DAVID TERRY

A Year You Did Not Know

A year has recently come and gone
Since we renewed our friendship
A year of sideways, up and down
In which my heart you gripped

For so long did I wonder about you
For years I pined alone
Whether time had done good fairness to you
Or were you on your own

Talking again and getting to know
Catching up from years gone by
And finally being able to show
How I felt for you and why

That one last dance on that autumn night
When did we together dance
And confessed my love to you in light
If we never got the chance

But you saw me through and closed the door
On building a friendship new
You could not abide my behavior more
On what you thought you knew

So a year has gone since last we spoke
You did not know it then
That it was you I loved with a far heart broke
I was in love with you again
