A Word Spoken Poem by Alonzo Titus

A Word Spoken

Rating: 5.0

A single word spoken carelessly
can break a heart unmercifully,
and draw a silence not easily broken
even if that word was just a token,
of your indifference
to the feelings of the other,
who's ideas and hopes
you wouldn't desire to smother.

If you love a person,
or say that you do,
how do you show it
to really be true,
by cutting them short
or criticizing them,
no matter how many years
you've shared with them,
and through all those years
were they as bad as now,
why are you with them any how,
their is no anchor tied to your bottom
to keep around those
over whom you've trodden.

The problem is
if you move away,
will you end up alone
for the rest of your days,
and if you are older
who's to sing your praises,
for many will be gone
from life's earlier phases,
and then who may you criticize
or find a fault to emphasize.
When you speak to one
who's loved you through time,
you might reconsider
and try to be kind.
