A Walk Through Hell Poem by Derek Brendish

A Walk Through Hell

Whispering thoughts scream into emptiness
Sweet memories transformed to the bleak obnoxious
Dreams broken, maimed by greed and intentions vicious
A half-life wasted, the remaining bruised and battered
Blistered horizon, the rainbow all shredded and shattered
The past reduced, shrunk to nothingness.

Tiny saline drops sparkle out the dullness
The choking hurts, the swallows take down nothing
Sinister words, coated smooth, sweetly maligning
Oh wickedness! thou hast triumphed once again
Craving for a denied fate, oblivious of the pain
The greed took over, clinging to selfishness.

New paths straggled upon through the wilderness
Hoping cobbles crushed under resolute strides
Soften roughened edges of the heart so deprived
Of the intense gush of passion that once flowed
Uninterrupted by mischief so deviously haloed
Yet putrefied to the core with waggishness.

How far can you venture, Oh wickedness?
Be warned, take care for thou can be spotted
Thy tenebrous hue on an illuminated path dotted
Walking backwards, thy face against the light
Obscured from view, on purpose so thou might
Move on in cowardice, hiding all in your falseness.

Know this, dusky darkening must yield to brightness
Thy sequined vesture stripped, a naked frame
Spirit lain bare, filthy, disgraced, sunk in shame
Walking all alone, none to follow, none to share
Thy repentance neglected, nay ignored, who's to care
Trudging the sands of time, an ambiance of loneliness.
