Purple red cherries
Visual treat arranged by hawker,
Tightly nestled in
Card board boxes.

Enticed from afar…
Fresh from cool hills
Of Nainital.
Madam, only for connoisseurs.

After haggling
Settled over a price.
Couldn’t wait to wash,
Held one with tender green stalk

It brushed against my lips,
Sensuously tickling my
Taste buds; ripe for a bite.
Before I knew, the bowl
Was almost, empty.

At the bottom
Sat a small heap
Of stones and stalks;
If they could speak…
I could read in
The silence;

You will pay
For your gluttony.
Appropriately, adjusted my expression
Looking shamefaced and sheepish.
But tell me, who can resist
Such a delectable treat?

Waste time washing
Off grime and pesticides…

when DDT is present in the sperm of every man and in the ovum of every woman in this nation, what is the point in washing a fruit?

Yes, who can wait and waste time! One who waits, gets an empty bowl. A very very original write. Your speciality, Mamta. Regards Naseer

Its a sense of unlimited freedom Perfection, kept aside For the sake of joy for the moment Uncontrolled, hinders the level of consciousness Senses say, 'why to waste time, seize the pleasure' Aftermath, a glare at the remaining stones and dust. You have hidden an ethical number Behind these worldly cherries. The one who can see the real color Can feel the pinch of the pesticide too. Limit what, its only in a wise man's hat. Once again, a great write dear poet. Thank you so much.
