A Visit Poem by Hans Raj Sharma

A Visit

After having
Visited
A privileged
Colony
Of true
Human beings
Where there
No where
To be seen
A haughty eye
Lying tongue
Hands shedding
Innocent blood
A wicked heart
Feet following
An evil
Not even
A single soul
Stirring up
Dissension
Amongst
The brothers.

After having
Met with
Lots of natives
With no clothing
To clad bodies
On other end
As you find
Persons-
Superbly clad
With dazzling
Dresses
But, no person
In them
Rude and rough
Ignoring stuff
Inner feelings
And sentiments
Arid to interpret.

The ones
Cou’d read
A blank paper
Though-
The others can’t
Even a book.

The ones
Although
Helpless
Yet, so strong
Keeping cool
In every way
As you find
Iron if cold
It’s hard
To be shaped
Wise-
Strike it only
When it’s hot
Giving easy
A choosy shape.

As you find
The others
Acute poverty
Stricken
Left with nothing
Except
Too much of
Wealth they have
And the ones
With no means
But, happiness
Never missing
From their faces
Appearing
To be stronger
Smarter and active
Happier because of
The sadness
They discern
Wiser because of
Lessons they learn
Or experiences
They gain
Forgetting not
To be thankful
Standing by
The needy ones
In thick and thin.

Not at all
The thinking
Not even trust
Or the belief
But, quite simple
A living-
The way of life
As to get out
Of the plight
And saga of life.
