A TRIBUTE TO PYTHAGORAS AND HIS
MUSIC OF THE SPHERES!

Pythagoras, mostly remembered for his famous
theorem of geometry,
Had a scientific bent of mind, which did blend
with his philosophy!
Unfortunately, none of his works survive over
the vast expanse of time!
Whatever we do know, is from the writings of
Aristotle and his master Plato!
Born in the Greek island of Samos in the mid
6th century BC,
He traveled through Asia Minor to Egypt in search
of knowledge and philosophy!

His Theory of Music

He is the first Greek philosopher credited to have
heard,
The cosmic music of the heavenly bodies in their
diurnal orbit round the sun!
The Book of Job speaks about a time when the
stars of the morning sang together!
And in his ‘The Merchant of Venice’ the great
Shakespeare wrote, -
“There’s not the smallest orb which thou behold’st
But in his motion like an angle sings,
Still quiring to the young-eyed cherubins.
Such harmony is in the immortal souls,
But whilst this muddy vesture of decay,
Doth grossly close it in, we cannot hear it! ”(Act-V)
Therefore, Pythagoras’ intuitive mind could feel
this music of the celestial kind!
Pythagoras while playing the lyre one day,
Formulated his musical theory, as people say!
Just as distinct notes were produced by the varying
lengths of the lyre strings,
So did those planets revolving the sun in their divinely
fixed frequency ratios, - *
Combine in a philharmonic orchestra of His grand
cosmic show!
Thus in his ‘theory of music’ the great Pythagoras,
Reduced it all to a mathematical ratio of numbers!
And before concluding I must say, that the Physicists
of our present day,
In their endeavour to find ‘A Theory of All Things’, **
Are working on the ‘M-Theory’, inspired by our
Pythagoras’ theory of musical lyre strings!

* Pythagoras found that the sun, the planets and
the moon all stood in the same frequency ratio as
the strings of his musical lyre! There by producing
music of the spheres at a harmonic scale! And he
worked out a musical ratio for the same!
** Einstein’s unfinished manuscript was based on his
efforts to find a single unified theory of all things!
Our scientists are now working on this, they call it the –
M-Theory = a combination of 5 different String Theories!
It speaks about small ‘nano string’(floating in a 11-dimenson
hyper-space) , from which everything evolves! Inspired
by Pythagoras’ musical theory! They are finding God’s
celestial musical harmony behind all things!

hey raj its a lovely poem, and the ground work is good.yes, i firmly believe that where science ends, supra science or spirituality begins.when science believes in one universe, our scriptures say about crores of universe emanating from lord vishnu, we dont know of.our knowledge is ofcourse limited.i do believe in the music of the spheres.....its existence, but i like the feel of it in the poem.....music behind all things, is the greatest tribute to pythogoras.thanks for sharing.....ritty

Raj, if the sun, the moon, the earth and stars are in tune in harmony, why cannot the people's of our world also be? Thank you once again, I look forward to my daily lesson. This one made me think if the great fire that destroyed the libary at Alexandra with all the knowledge of the then modern world had not happened. How far progressed we might be today? I wonder what great works were maybe lost for ever. Regards Bob

you havedone it again Raj, the story you tell here with such passion and urgency to share is beautiful, not only in narration and composition, but is spiritually uplifting. Science is finally realising its limitations. i have turned a believer with your convincing arguments supported with evidence, not that intuitively i didn't feel it.10+++ Mamta

Wow! What an amazing and interesting story and you have opened my eyes to so much. You have delved into the deep to find the music of the spheres and have brought to us your scientific and intuitive knowledge. Wonderful Raj. 10 Karin Anderson
