A TRIBUTE TO POETRY

Let Poetry remain unfettered like Prometheus
unbound, @
Unlike a bird in a golden cage with muted
sound!
Let it soar high in the blue ethereal space,
With noble thoughts and lyrical expressions
of loftiness!
Never to melt like Icarus’ wings in its flight
of aspiration, #
But to shine and reflect the sun’s rays -
with a message of love and devotion!
Bringing hope for mankind for a better day!
Touching our hearts and minds, – for Poetry
is here to stay!
My humble tribute to poetry remains on this
Diwali day!

@ = Prometheus a second generation Titan stole the FIRE from Zeus,
and gave it to mankind! He was punished by Zeus who bound him to
a rock, where an eagle ate his liver every day since the liver regenerated itself everday!
Aeschylus immortalized the myth in his tragedy –
“Prometheus Bound” during the 5th Century BC! The poet Shelley in his
“Prometheus Unbound” – makes him to rebel & overthrow Zeus in the
spirit of the French Revolution! # = Daedalus the great craftsman & his
son was imprisoned by King Minos of Crete in a tower. Daedalus made two pairs of wings for him & his son Icarus to fly & escape!
He had sealed the wings with wax! He cautioned Icarus not to fly up
close to the sun, as the wax would then melt!
His son disobeyed, the wax melted & Icarus got drowned in the
sea below! BUT POETRY REMAINS UNBOUND & FOREVER FLIES
HIGH, BEYOND THE SUN & THE STARS, - ITS LOFTINESS DEFIES! !
