A Test To See If I'M Still Paying Attention Poem by Dan Gregory

A Test To See If I'M Still Paying Attention

I see among things, and people, and see that brick walls have hit people, or that people have hit brick walls.
But do people hit brick walls, or do brick walls hit people?
No, brick walls do not hit people, things do not hit people.
Things don't move around us, or at us
people either move towards things, away from things, or around things.
Away from people, to people, or around people.
We'd like to believe that things revolve around us sometimes,
I would even, but then I remember I'm stronger and wiser than that,
I've been through a lot,
But then even I fall back at times,
You see, even I have become pessimistic at times, even I have become negative at times,
Even I have become Narcissistic at times,
Even I have often lost faith in humanity, even in recent times.
Even I, though I've been strong, have traveled back into darkness.
Even I have found delight in darkness at times...
But then I remember who I am...
And I feel the light again, I see the light again,
and wonder why I ever went back into darkness,
Then I realize, it is
Because Sometimes, things are a test, to see if I'm still paying attention.
A test to see if I still am who I was years ago,
A test to see if I still carry that Insane faith,
that got me over all obstacles, and that got me where I am today...
