A Sweet Feathered Friend Poem by Joyce Hemsley

A Sweet Feathered Friend

In pleasant hours of summertime
When all the pretty flowers shine
A chaffinch ~ just six inches long
Sings a chirpy little song
Until the daylight's gone.

He welcomes in a sunny day
With song, he takes our care away
A picture of this finch on high
And we say 'Oh Me Oh My'
Wonders never die.

In golden shrubs, just take a stare
You may see a chaffinch there
Breeding fledglings, olive brown
Singing tweet-tweet of renown
Such a pretty sound.

Come little breeding bird
Here you belong
Singing and winging
In happy throng.
