A Summer Storm Poem by Walterrean Salley

A Summer Storm

A sudden downpour.
Loud booms of thunder began to roll
And shake the earth.
The winds gusted, blowing rain
Against the window panes.
Lightning hissed and struck,
Brightening the pitch-dark skies.
Huge tree limbs fell with a loud, sweeping
Sound, as they brushed against the house.
Oh God help me!
Frantically, I called out.

Then, there was an unexpected calm.
A little bird began sweetly serenading
As other fowls joined him. I fell asleep.
It was early morning of the next day
That I awoke with morning light
Piercing the windows.
