Poet's Notes about The Poem

I was on home leave (in July,1976) when I experienced this ambiance in a residential suburb in old Madras.

A typical suburban picture in Madras city with a medley of rural and semi urban scenes!

Here a house proclaims itself a workshop
For ailing cars immobilised on blocks,
    With innards gutted, rust-corroded,
Stripped, grey-coated................................... A typical country workshop!

Passers by asking 'the wrist watched time of the day' and yellow cycle rickshaws waiting to pick up 'green white little girls' are all quite interesting! ! (Report) Reply
