A Subtle Shift Poem by Dee Daffodil

A Subtle Shift

Rating: 5.0

There was a subtle shift today
I felt the axis slip...
Just a notch

I knew somehow
That life as it has been
Would not continue
I think we've been sad...
Both you and I...
Maybe for the same reason...
Maybe not...

There was a subtle shift...
Not enough to totally
Blow the boat out of the water...
Just enough to rock it gently

It leaves one wondering...
Would we have survived..
An iceberg?

The tides have turned
And yet..
The ocean that looms ahead of me
Doesn't seem that ferocious now

There was a subtle shift today
The truth was not revealed...
And still...I knew
Call it my...
Early warning system

Although words are lost to us...
I think that there is
A deeper understanding

I harbour no malice...
Perhaps only a wistful regret

Life is what we make of it...
Let's not make it hell for each other...

Wow Dee! You don't know how much this resonates. I totally get that subtle shift, the way the world just spins slighty out of control, or rather as you put it, just moved slightly on it's axis. Poignant emotions penned sensitively. Love it. Hugs, HG: -) xx

I have relished reading the last two lines, most of all.

I can certainly relate...or maybe these are just universal feeling experienced at some time in our lives. The last two lines vividly put the poem into perspective. Nice write. Zen

This is the kind of subtle shift that often occurs in an unattended relationship. The realization and confusion are skillfully captured.

Sometimes things change for someone and their not quite able to put their finger on the reason for it. It is a nice idea, illusiveness can be so intriguing. Well done.
