A Story Poem by Jasbir Chatterjee

A Story

Rating: 4.3

Once upon a time,
There was a pigeon.
His name was Smidgen.
He was a poet,
In deep love with the Moon.

One day,
He called out to the retreating moon,
'Don't go away yet, dearest Moon!
You are immortal,
But tomorrow I might be gone.'

She exclaimed,
'Oh, come on, Smidgen!
Don't be such a silly pigeon, '
With her packing done.
She was just about to fade away.

But something tugged at her heart.
Torn between Love and Duty,
Wondering if it was love or vanity,
She threw caution to the winds
And chose to follow her heart.

Just for a moment,
She veered from her path,
And hovered freely over Earth,
Close enough for Smidgen
To look into her eyes.

It was a beautiful moment;
An unforgettable sight.
A feast for my eyes,
A demonstration of the power
Of Love...

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was inspired by a series of photographs I clicked recently, some of which you see here...I have tried to arrange the words and lines in a fixed pattern this time. It's a collection of 6 quintains(6 stanzas, each of 5 lines) arranged in a rhyming pattern of abbcd. What is this arrangement called? I don't know. That's why I have put it under 'Prose Poem' form. Can anyone correct me please?
