A Step Poem by Elinor Auerbach

A Step

Rating: 5.0

I place down my foot
And watch
As the grains of sand race to form
The quiet avalanche of my passing
Embracing my foot
Caressing its curves and lines
Sculpting its shape
Surrounding it
Until it leaves-
Flicking a few grains in its departure
Leaving the soft imprint of my foot
Embedded in the sand
A marker in a path that has been taken
A journey undergone
A step in a life of movement
A step in the path of life
A step in the path
A step.
