As I lay dying
My contrite heart crying
Tears with hope glimmer

Poet's Notes about The Poem

A Soul’s Endeavour was inspired by that quiet and lonely tear that used to trickle down the corners of my father's eyes as he lay dying. I could envisage a soul’s effort to be rescued by the mercy of God from his sins.

    Fascinating imagery, profound and deeply spiritually in a human sense. Often I think of death and how I will fare on that last step to eternity, consciousness always seemingly aware of transgressions in life making me think. Thank you, RoseAnn (Report) Reply

    A very deep concept of life, its pitfalls and transgressions, committed sins, confessions and repentance, rolling tears and the endless Divine Mercy.
    'A sinful ship my eyes behold
    That on the stream of life floats
    Laden with transgressions
    Its sails unfurl my confessions
    Dives in dark waves of repentance
    Bounces up, on its acceptance.'
    These lines cannot emerge without deep, engrossing thoughts which the poet has delivered so beautifully!
    Good punctuation, good grammar and a good note, over all a very good poem.
    Very well done, Humera! (Report) Reply

    The passions and prayers of a dying soul yet ever hoping for
    ones deliverance from sins past. Petitions are answered and
    a soul is released and flies away to Heavenly comfort. Beautifully
    crafted and very touching. Loved this write. (Report) Reply

There! little girl; don't cry!
They have broken your doll, I know;
And your tea-set blue,
And your play-house, too,
Are things of the long ago;
