A Song For The New Year Poem by Francis Duggan

A Song For The New Year

I woke this morning to a brand New Year
And still all seem the same as yesterday,
The clock that hang on kitchen wall I hear
And time as ever tick and tick away.

The wattlebird still call on wattle tree
His voice this morning undergone no change
And nothing's changed or so 'twould seem to me
And all as is and nothing new or strange.

A brand New Year already getting old
I go to lounge room switch on the T.V.
And last year's big stories are again re-told
But last year's big stories no strange news to me.

It's January the first and New Year's day
The birth of the year two thousand and two
And greetings ring in house across the way
Happy new year to you and you and you.
