A Soldier's Spirit Poem by Richard Netherland Cook

A Soldier's Spirit

One night I was awakened,
By someone standing by my bed,
He was dressed in an old dusty uniform,
And had a helmet on his head.

He stood there for a moment,
Then he said 'Let's talk a spell',
I am the spirit of a soldier,
Who fought in war and fell.

I come to you as the spirit,
Of a soldier who joined the fight,
To protect and defend the freedom,
We hold so very tight.

The American way of life is once again,
Threated by those from other shores,
And to pursue the course of freedom,
We die in other peoples wars.

American is slowly losing the freedom,
And the values she holds so dear,
Some freedom is taken from her,
Each and every year.

Before it is too late,
I come and say to you,
Rise up and take back,
The American we all once knew.

Take pride in your America,
Speak out for liberty,
Defend her from each and every foe,
Wherever they may be.

I speak for those who in war have fallen,
And the heroes who live in pain,
Keep American free, so we,
Shall not have died in vain.

I have given the ultimate sacrifice,
My country I did defend,
My words you should remember,
I want pass this way again.
