A Soft Scent In The Air Poem by Iris Rain

A Soft Scent In The Air

There is a soft scent in the air tonight
A lingering scent from the rain earlier
Creeping into the subconscious mind
Invading the passive senses

Lifting up the veil of remembrances
Yesterdays, sitting among the straw mat
Listening to the tropical rain shower
Playing our silly little games
Safe and cozy in our little haven
Not caring that the world outside is dripping cold and wet

With the same soft scent in the air

I saw your face like yesterday
I saw you grinning like you used to
When you hold my hands in yours to hide them from the cold

The same soft scent in the air
Luring us to sleep
Safe in our little haven
Safe with my hands clasped in yours
Safe with the innocence we never thought we will miss
The entire world is softly scented
With the comforting sound of rain singing a sweet lullaby
Rain that cannot get in
There and then, I watched you sleep, by my side, holding my hands

And our whole world is right there with us,
And we will never be lost as we are now
Without each other’s hands to warm
Without each other’s faces to touch
Without each other’s fear to calm

The same soft scent in the air
Linger like yesterday

Softly assailing, reminding, plucking at the mist of yesterdays in my head
