A Smile Poem by Francis Duggan

A Smile

As a wise person has been known to say
A smile can bring a flutter of joy to your day
The sullen faced people of few wish to know
Since they seem to lack in the bright inner glow
The friendly person when walking on the street
Imparts a little joy to everyone she or he does meet
It is indeed a wonderful gift they possess
With others they share some of their happiness
Few wish to know of the sad sacks of the town
The people who always look sad faced and down
Suppose they cannot help it if this is their way
But they never bring joy to anyone's day
A smile it will never cost you anything
And a flutter of joy to others it may bring.
