A Sleep Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

A Sleep

Rating: 5.0

A sleep
- - - - - -
Of all the sleeps
That has been bestowed on us
The sleep of an angle
Charms me most
And all others
Either scare or lure more
A day is born
Followed by noon
Even and night soon
And my young heart
Goes to sleep
With many a dream worn
Oh night quiet night
What fault is yours?
That should I thee scorn
For suffusing so much dreams
Purple, red, yellow and brown
And lasting till daybreak
Till dawn when awake
Headlong I stumbled upon
An object unknown
Thinking to be my dream of love
Not long long ago
In my sleep came alone
Dreams are wines
Youth loves to gulp down
But the hangover is known
To have heart broken down
Since then I have prayed God
To bless me with the sleep of a baby angel
Where calmness reigns,
Holiness shines
And beauty rhymes……..

Though Oscar Wilde has philosophically said that sleep is the brother of death, it is an experience we long to have when we are sleepless. Your real experience and longing for an immaculate and innocent sleep are mutually rewarding Deepakji.
