A Simple White Cross Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

A Simple White Cross

By the side of a well traveled road
I see a small simple white cross
As the holidays come and go
I see reminders of someone's loss

I feel the presence of a small child
whose laughter is now forever still
A sudden death that was unforeseen
Cutting short dreams to be fulfilled

In the springtime a fluffy rabbit appeared
with a few pastel fake flowers
Place carefully at the solitary location
Weathered by sun and drenching showers

Grass and weeds attempted to hide
lasting memories and affection
Someone has cleared away and mowed...
again revealing love and reflection

Summer days pass and autumn leaves fall
A small pumpkin takes a patient pose
Setting next to the humble white cross
Slowly withering… then covered by snow

Each time I pass this sacred spot
I slow down and say a little prayer
Knowing that there are caring hearts
that continue to grieve in despair
