A Shift In Perception Poem by Mamta Agarwal

A Shift In Perception

Rating: 3.9

A senior citizen,
Who was bed ridden,
In the course of conversation
Calmly mentioned:

That these modern inventions
Are quite a boon.
Since I can not move,
I just order my groceries
And ask for home delivery.

The shopkeepers are eager to oblige
Without an extra charge.
When I had a fall,
I just called my doctor who makes home calls.

I surf the net
And have friends I haven’t met.
Age is no bar,
We chat for hours.

Since I can’t travel,
I see the world on Discovery Channel.
When I want to eat,
I just wheel myself to heat
The food my maid leaves
In the microwave.

When I want to switch off and relax,
I turn on the World Space.
I think I feel less lonely then my parents
When they were my age.

I walked back pondering,
He had the wisdom to count his blessings.
And had a shift in perception,
About these modern inventions.

Ah! what a positive way to look at things, so gracefully accepted the paradigm shift…otherwise people keep grumbling and are so obstinate not to change with times…If we cannot help or sustain the past it’s good to accept the change and live peacefully…I liked the realistic view of flexibility…………well put stanzas bringing all new inventions in… **Abha**

Reasoning and consoling the self Is the best way to keep the most wonderful cheer. One who knows to reason At each step he treads Is rarely known to stray. Good poem. Thank you.
