A Rhymer Poem by Francis Duggan

A Rhymer

A rhymer may be just that a rhymer but a rhymer never runs out of rhyme
But sadly most people look on rhymers as people who do waste their time
In putting their verses together if for such they do receive any pay
They see money as most important your money speaks for you they say
In the World of modern poetry most literary critics dismiss rhyme as dead
In the university and college campus blank verse is the poetry that is read
At every poetry reading a rhymer not seen as a poet
Not seen as one as important to be worthy of literary note
But I am one who does like rhymers for rhyme to it has a nice ring
Without rhyme song would be denuded and that would seem such a sad thing
It may be seen by some as out of fashion as something that is of the past
But rhyme still has it's literary purpose though few things in time seems to last
But those who say that rhyme is as dead as the dodo I feel glad to say have got it wrong
For if rhyme is lost to us forever we too will witness the death of song.
