A Reflection Poem by Ranadeb Bhattacharya

A Reflection

Rating: 4.8

I whistle to the winnowing breeze,

Her twisting charms and her regal frizz,

It’s sullen and shoddy inside still.

No answers found to the lingering doubts

Stubbed in the corners of a clouded mind.

While the temperate winds and their tonic swings,

Flirt with the shallow birch and they soar

Over the horizon dark and fall

On the weary nests of the night sweet birds,

Scattered and tattered like leaves of glass

They melt through shadows and mend barriers

But Alas! The anguished mind caught unaware,

In the tidal surge of reasons and fears

Will not spare the pleasant dance and hustle outside

To make way though the bolted world inside.

I wish to flow into the sunset of a promising morrow,

Trudge through the peachy deserted streets,

Past the farthest city lights and their intense stare,

Into the fathomless bottom of the mystic night

I wish to walk past the chambers of bleak choices

Lost in the abysses of another time

I wish I won’t shudder and tremble in fright.

When the stroking flakes of amber,

Grow cold in the grey shades of the warping winter

And the long howl of life awaits silence

Till the lines are jaded and the sparkle has faded.

When the flash lights in their fading glory dims

With none to entice on candle light evening.

I still wonder when the stumble

Is brought to a dreary halt,

Will the night hold her sway and counsel me well

To hold my ground and toast to farewell

And smile in full when the curtain falls?
