A Rather Public Servant Poem by Brian 'Peza' Perrins

A Rather Public Servant

(sing this song to the tune of 'matchstick men, matchstick cat's and dog's)

I’ve tried to work hard all my life
And all I get is trouble and strife
Why don’t they seem to care or understand?

I slog all day for my constituency
Stay away all week from my family
Why do they think I’m being crooked or underhand?

Public chorus
Why don’t you stop your whingeing on you thieving swine?
We caught you out, so give back what’s really mine
You had your snout deep in the trough
So take your expense claims and get off
You’ve had your chance now go and hang your head in shame

I need two houses can’t you see
To have just one’s no good to me
All my mates have got to have at least the same

So I’ve sold my home a time or two
If you had the chance well wouldn’t you?
For Christ’s sake why should it be me to blame?

Public chorus
Why don’t you stop your whingeing on you thieving swine?
We caught you out, so give back what’s really mine
You had your snout deep in the trough
So take your expense claims and get off
You’ve had your chance now go and hang your head in shame

I’m just a decent, honest man
Who makes a shilling wherever I can?
Let’s face it we all need to clean our moat

This job I have it sometime sucks
When all I do is look after my ducks
Why can’t you stop and just give me your vote

Public chorus
Why don’t you stop your whingeing on you thieving swine?
We caught you out, so give back what’s really mine
You had your snout deep in the trough
So take your expense claims and get off
You’ve had your chance now go and hang your head in shame

It’s over now I’ve had my day
I’ve worked so hard for little pay
I’ll leave right now with heartache and some tension

It’s back to life in the real world
Now that my past has been unfurled
I’ll just have to live on my bullet proof pension

Public chorus
Why don’t you stop your whingeing on you thieving swine?
We caught you out, so give back what’s really mine
You had your snout deep in the trough
So take your expense claims and get off
You’ve had your chance now go and hang your head in shame
