a quizzical posit...mystery unsolved..... |

are you the cat that ate the heart.....
had you been fed so sparsely.... never given gingerbread and less than often, parsley....
were you the one who gulped it down.... took it from the table, brown....six-legged..... were your whiskers....(seldom egged) , licked..... whilst cook wore worried frown....... she shuddered, that it might be found you'd eaten, quickly.... with no sound, that precious organ she'd held... bound for interment in sacred ground.....
'tis said she had a timely thought.... pig's innards, recently'd been bought for supper.... and from those she sought to replace that which you had got.....
she did it...! ? !
was no-one the wiser.... had she been quite the enterpriser... to think so fast, light on her feet....
like you.... the cat who'd had a treat..... your belly full of juicy meat.....
at least you didn't leave a mess...... oh, was it you....sweet, striped Tess...? ? ?
delilah contrapunctal.... yes, that's how I intended to spell it.........

What a fascinating tale of thievery and guile, of sacrifice and resourcefulness. And so charmingly delivered in the most poetical, musical, popsicle way. Dear Tess - I'll bet it was her. purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and love, Alley Catte ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ |
