A Proven Band Poem by Ted Middleton

A Proven Band

A Proven Band

They move with a sense of purpose - and an energy to needs
For anyone who's used them, they are well known for their deeds
Whether day or night or weekend, they are always at their station
The results they get - a tribute, to their skills and dedication
So if one day you need to call upon this proven band
They'll be there too to comfort you and lend a helping hand
And if your need is urgent, to attend lifes little curses
They'll be there at the ready - it's their calling... they are nurses.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
In July 2011 I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis... which was
diagnosed from one of my eyelids drooping. No problems... one
little pill daily and all was fixed, or so it seemed then.
In early 2012 the condition caused me 4 hospital stays of 6 to 66
days... over 4 months in total, including 5 days in the intensive
care unit gasping for air. I also lost 20 kilos of weight, but
then again, I could afford to lose the first 14 kilos!

Anyway, I had plenty of time - in between the excellent attention
I got and the endless tests etc. - to surf the net, email, exercise
and WRITE SOME POETRY...

I write these 2 about my feelings of homesickness and about that
seemingly tireless band who wait hand and foot on all those who
enter their domain. I was so impressed...

And just because I didn't write poems about all the other support
staff at the hospital, doesn't mean I value them less and I have
some very fond memories of many people there who made my stay more
bearable than it would have otherwise been. Three thumbs up....
